Care & Feeding Instructions for Technical Clothing

The garment that you just purchased from Black Creek Outfitters has been designed for the active outdoor user. In order for the garment to continue to perform at a high level, here are our recommendations.

Waterproof/Breathable Garments

  • Wash only with non-detergent soaps. Why? Detergents damage the DWR (Durable Water Repellent)finish on the outside shell of a W/B garment. The DWR keeps the breathability of the jacket high. Without a working DWR the garment will not breathe well and will start to feel clammy. You know that your DWR is working well if youre the outside shell beads up water like a freshly waxed car. Black Creeks recommendation Nikwaxs Tech Wash.
  • Spray-on a DWR treatment when your outside shell does not bead up like a freshly waxed car. Black Creeks recommendation Nikwaxs TX Direct spray on. After applying TX Direct put the garment in the dryer for about 15 seconds to set the DWR treatment.
  • Do NOT put in the Dryer to dry. You will melt your jacket.

Wicking Garments

Long Underwear, Coolmax, Capilene, polyester fabrics

  • Wash with soaps without any extra stuff like fabric softeners, or perfumes or color brightners.
  • Wash with other similar products. Wash them with a towel and your garments will be covered with lint.
  • Hang Dry. These fabrics dry quickly anyway so save them from the horrors of the dryer.
